Crucial Conversations (And How To Have Them)
At some point - you're going to have to have a crucial and/or difficult conversation with someone. The problem is that no one teaches us how to sit down with someone and have a successful crucial (or difficult) conversation.
And sometimes, we wince at the phrase "difficult conversation." So, what if we adjust our language and call them "growth conversations" or "accountability conversations"? Doing so helps those you are leading understand where you're headed and a little insight into the upcoming conversations - and it also shows them that you're looking to help grow them.
Whatever you decide to call it, at the end of the day - we're simply trying to help our people be the best versions of themselves. Monty Williams, an NBA coach tells his people, "I'm not calling you out, I'm calling you up" to remind them of the standard, of the goals they're striving for, and inspire those around him.
